Sake brewery visit: Sachihime sake brewery in Saga prefecture
We recently visited Sachihime Sake Brewery in Saga Prefecture.
Located in Kashima City, Saga Prefecture, Sachihime Sake Brewery was founded in the mid-Edo period (1804). It is run by two brothers: the elder brother serves as the toji (master brewer), while the younger brother handles sales. During our visit, the younger brother—who manages sales—kindly showed us around.

The brewery honors its heritage while embracing new challenges. They are particularly well-regarded for producing fruity, approachable sake.
Key Brands:
- Sachihime: The brewery’s flagship brand, which includes varieties such as junmai and daiginjo.
- Onikoroshi: A dry sake characterized by a sharp, crisp finish and rich umami.
- Ginjo Series: Known for their vibrant aromas and flavors, these are popular even among the younger generation.

Sachihime Sake Brewery offers tours where visitors can learn about the history and processes of sake production, as well as enjoy tastings. Please note that advance reservations are required for visits. Their soft-serve ice cream is also a big hit.
The brewery has earned high acclaim at the Annual Japan Sake Awards and various other competitions, with its exceptional quality recognized both domestically and internationally.
As a delightful surprise, I also happened to run into Mr. Iwasaki—an acquaintance from a restaurant I frequent in Tokyo—during my visit!
